Sassicaia was first released in 1971 (vintage 1968), marking the beginning of a revolution in Bolgheri. Cabernet Sauvignon was planted in place of Sangiovese and Bordeaux wine making techniques were adopted to create an entirely new style of wines for Tuscany.
There are more than 50 wineries now producing fine wines in the region and Bolgheri has become one of Italy’s newest DOCs (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) — and one of the most sought-after. Most of the wines are red and made with a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah … some whites and rosés complete the range.

- I will introduce you to the geographical area of Bolgheri and will let you know all about the wines that are produced.
- You will visit 2 significant wineries and taste their wines.
- You will have a typical lunch in a nice restaurant in Bolgheri and will pair Bolgheri wine with food.
- I’ll guide you during the whole tour and can reply to all of your questions and doubts.
- You’ll have the possibility to buy wines and I can advise on bargains or relevant labels.
- Duration: 8-9 hours
