For several years now Proven\u00e7al ros\u00e9 wines are dominating the scene. It is a trend that has influenced all wine producers with the objective to make ros\u00e9 wines as pale as possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luciano Ciolfi, from Podere San Lorenzo<\/strong>, well-established producer of Brunello di Montalcino, does not follow that trend. His ros\u00e9 wine is made with the same grapes of Brunello di Montalcino, that is 100% Sangiovese. It does not come from an early harvest, but by the regular harvest and boasts not less than 14,5 % alcohol. Reduced skin contact during fermentation (12 hours only) makes it a ros\u00e9 instead of a red. Hence the extraction of color pigments and tannins from the skins is very limited. The wine is matured for few months in used barrique and clay amphora before bottling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result is a cherry pink color wine; very floral and fruity on the nose, it reminds of pomegranate, raspberry, rose petals, orange peel. The taste is intense, flavorful, well-balanced, has a lingering fruity finish. Very farm from the pale, crisp, lightish Proven\u00e7al style, on the contrary truly Tuscan: savory and refreshing!
